The meeting intends to present the newly established THE BANK Foundation ETS – Institute for Studies on Contemporary Painting and the editorial project History of Contemporary Italian Painting 1980-2025 by Cesare Biasini Selvaggi, SKIRA editions, which carries out and documents, with the support of 400 illustrations , the first systematic study on contemporary Italian painting from 1980 to today, through the pictorial production of over 300 male and female painters of the last forty years. Because painting in Italy, despite its long history, has continued to renew itself between perspectives of development and continuity. Ample space will be dedicated to the 400 images as a support for the analysis of the research of the painters examined: the iconographic apparatus will almost perform the function of another “text”. A section dedicated to figure sculptors will complete the work.

The volume will be divided into diachronic sections along an articulation also of a geographical nature. From the second half of the eighties the various groups dissolved in favor of the independent talent of individual artists who set off on a solo path. The bleeding of the diaspora of figurations has stopped in Italy on a local basis, where there have been clusters of regional groups, tendencies and schools, if not actual new pulsating movements, from the Scicli Group to the Palermo School, from from San Lorenzo School to Officina milanese, from Medialism to Roman digital painting of the nineties. From 2000 to today, the investigation will focus on the great milieu of “only sons and daughters” of Italian painting, up to the new generation of emerging talents.
