Can an object be charming, somber, playful, or nostalgic? Still life photography has the power to liberate objects from their mere functional roles, and there is something unsettling about seeing them come to life and take on distinct personalities. Each object transforms depending on how it is chosen, photographed, illuminated, and contextualized, revealing much more about us than we are used to considering. Traditionally, still life has been regarded as a secondary genre, overshadowed by sacred art, portraiture, and landscapes. Can we restore both artistry and emotion to the portrayal of the objects we create?
