The 31st edition of Artissima, the International Fair of Contemporary Art, successfully concludes amid an atmosphere of great satisfaction. Directed for the third consecutive year by Luigi Fassi, the fair has developed an excellent network of international relations and a ground-breaking approach to art selection. Artissima spotlights contemporary creativity within the city of Turin and beyond, acting as a driver for the entire Italian art ecosystem.
The daydream of Artissima
Luigi Fassi, Director of Artissima, comments: “We are truly very happy with this year’s results, and Sunday we turned off the lights on an edition that will remain in memory as particularly significant: in a climate of great global uncertainty, Artissima was able to bring a message of optimism. Those who participated in this Art Week depart from Turin bringing with them new energy. My deepest thanks go to the gallerists, to their vision and ability to accompany artists on the path of growth and research in the world of market and institutions. The specificity of Turin has also had its own large share of merit: the network of the city’s museums has created a cultural palimpsest of the highest order. My deepest thanks to the friends and colleagues who lead the museums, and the city’s public and private institutions who together have created something unique.”
The numbers of Artissima 2024
During the four days of the fair Artissima welcomed: 34,200 guests, visitors and industry professionals, and 189 galleries, including 37 taking part in the fair for the first time. There have been 66 monographic projects, 11 prizes, grants and supports, of which 1 acquisition fund and 1 fund to the galleries were added.
The participating galleries came from 34 countries and 4 continents: Argentina, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, China, Colombia, Croatia, Cuba, France, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Israel, Italy, Lithuania, Mexico, Netherlands, Peru, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, United States, South Africa,, Switzerland, Turkey, Hungary, Uruguay and Zimbabwe.

OELLE – MEDITERRANEO ANTICO PRIZE, awarded to Daniela Ortiz, presented by the gallery LAVERONICA, Modica.
ETTORE & INES FICO PRIZE, awarded to Daniele Di Girolamo, presented by the gallery Traffic, Bergamo.
With the highest budget in the last 12 years, Fondazione per l’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea CRT acquired 10 new works by 5 artists: important pieces by Sara Enrico, Chiara Fumai and Zhanna Kadyrova will enter the Fondazione’s collection and go on long-term loan to Castello di Rivoli Museo d’Arte Contemporanea, while works by Guglielmo Castelli and Chantal Joffe will go on long-term loan to GAM – Galleria Civica d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea di Torino.

Highlights
Artissima’s special projects, realised in collaboration with partners and institutions, have been a great success.
At the fair: WoW – Worlds of Words – focused on Italian and international magazines and publishing projects, created with the support of Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo – saw a great turnout and participation in its 3 spaces: TALKING MAGAZINES, a space for talks organized by Jaguar and curated by Reading Room; EDICOLA curated by Reading Room, with an exclusive selection of important titles in Italian and international publishing; EDITORIAL AREA, featuring individual booths and standalone displays specifically designed to offer maximum visibility to participating magazines and publishers, alongside a section dedicated to specialty bookstores and the Bookshop by Librerie Corraini. The institutional space of the Direzione Generale Creatività Contemporanea — Ministero della Cultura (DGCC), honoring initiatives launched in support of the Italian contemporary art system and young artists, both nationally and internationally. The series of photographic works by Olivo Barbieri titled The urban views at the stand of Intesa Sanpaolo, Main Partner of the fair. MADE IN, the residency programme created by Artissima with the support of Camera di commercio di Torino, launched its third edition with four exceptional new partners: Azimut Yachts, Manifattura Tessile DINOLE®, Sabelt and Xerjoff. Artissima Junior, in collaboration with Juventus, engaging younger visitors in a workshop led by Sara Enrico (Vistamare gallery). The AudioGuide promoted by Lauretana – as part of Artissima Digital powered by Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo – for independent exploration of the fair through 6 podcast itineraries.
In town: Gallerie d’Italia — Torino has welcomed the third edition of the moving image project titled The Underground Cinema, curated by Irene Calderoni. The Museo Regionale di Scienze Naturali di Torino hosted the installation Objects in Mirror Might Be Closer Than They Appear by Julian Charrière and Julius von Bismarck (Sies + Höke gallery). The former Zoo of Torino — Parco Michelotti hosted, in collaboration with Città di Torino, the project Raised in the Dust by the artist Andro Eradze (SpazioA gallery). The ballroom of the historic Hotel Principi di Piemonte | UNA Esperienze hosted Afasia 1 by Arcangelo Sassolino (Galleria Continua). Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo hosted Hearsay, the solo exhibition of Bekhbaatar Enkhtur (Galleria Matèria, Roma), winner of the 2023 edition of the illy Present Future Prize. VANNI exclusively launched EMBRACE, a capsule collection of artist-designed eyewear created by Elisa Alberti, the winner of the VANNI #artistroom Prize at Artissima 2023. Furthermore, the fair curated the production of Euridome, a luminous installation supported by Consulta per la Valorizzazione dei Beni Artistici e Culturali di Torino and Unione Industriali Torino by Erik Saglia (Thomas Brambilla gallery).
