At Palazzo Madama, from 1 to 13 November, Fondation Prince Pierre de Monaco on the occasion of Artissima presented the winner of the PIAC – Prix International d’Art Contemporain, assigned every three years to a recent work made by an artist. The winner of the 47th edition of the prize is Arthur Jafa, announced at a ceremony in Monte Carlo on 15 October.
This year the three works selected by a jury composed of Kader Attia, artist and founding director of La Colonie; Ilaria Bonacossa, director of Artissima; Reem Fadda, curator, Department of Culture and Tourism, Abu Dhabi; Candice Hopkins, senior curator, Toronto Biennial of Art; Isaac Julien, artist and director – are:
- Tree Identification for Beginners (2017) by Yto Barrada presented by Adrienne Edwards;
- Love Is the Message, The Message Is Death (2016) by Arthur Jafa presented by Tumelo Mosaka;
- FRAGMENTS (2016-in progress) by Rayyane Tabet presented by Lorenzo Giusti.
The prize was assigned by the Art Committee chaired by Her Royal Highness the Princess of Hanover, Caroline of Monaco, with vice-president Marie-Claude Beaud and artistic director Lorenzo Fusi.
