Artissima takes place in an Unplugged version for 2020. A new format, extended throughout the city and online that brings together physical exhibitions produced with Fondazione Torino Musei and digital projects: an acoustic version of the fair that focuses on the instrument (the works) and the voice (the galleries).
Presented under the theme Frenetic Standstill, from 7 November 2020 to 9 January 2021, the museums of Fondazione Torino Musei – GAM – Galleria Civica d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea, Palazzo Madama – Museo Civico d’Arte Antica and MAO Museo d’Arte Orientale – will feature works provided by the galleries selected for this edition of Artissima, presenting an overview of highlights of what the audience would have seen in the booths of the fair.
Today we introduce you MAO
MAO puts a selection of 10 “orientalist” works into dialogue with the museum’s collections, therefore inserted in the visit itinerary. Viewers will be involved in a special treasure hunt through the historic building that now contains the museum. The contrast between past and present leads to reflections on the way contemporary art formulates a response to a varied history of formal, spiritual and artisanal factors. The exhibition reveals the in-depth research conducted by a number of galleries, to discover the developments of contemporary art in the East.
