aaajiao is the winner of the 19th edition of the illy Present Future Prize, promoted by illycaffè since 2001 and assigned to the most interesting artist of Present Future, the section of Artissima dedicated to emerging talents. The prize also offers its winner the exceptional opportunity to have a show in a museum of the territory, on the occasion of Artissima 2020. The artist is presented by Berlin-based gallery House of Egorn. The prize has been awarded today by an international jury composed of Carolyn Christov-Bakargiev, director, Castello di Rivoli Museo d’Arte Contemporanea, Rivoli (Torino); Stefan Kalmár, executive director and curator, ICA – Institute of Contemporary Arts, London; and Agustin Pérez Rubio, curator, Berlin Biennale, 2020.
Sardi per l’Arte Back to the Future Prize, dedicated to the gallery with the most interesting project in terms of historical importance and display, has been awarded to the Japanese artist Kimiyo Mishima, represented by Kyoto-based gallery Sokyo. The prize has been awarded by an international jury composed of Marcella Beccaria, chief curator, Castello di Rivoli Museo d’Arte Contemporanea, Rivoli-Torino; Iwona Blazwick, director, Whitechapel Gallery, London; Christine Macel, chief curator of contemporary art, Centre Pompidou, Paris; and Lisa Parola, independent curator, Torino.
Sheroanawe Hakihiiwe, presented by Caracas-based gallery ABRA, is the winner of the third edition of the Refresh Irinox Prize, assigned to the artist that most vividly conveys the expressive immediacy of drawing in a contemporary approach. In partnership with Irinox, the prize is focused on the Disegni section. The winner has been selected from an international jury composed of Simon Castets, director, Swiss Institute, New York; Krist Gruijthuijsen, director, KW Berlin Institute of Contemporary Art, Berlin; and Ole G. Slyngstadli, director, Oslo Biennial.
Since 2018 the initiative also includes the acquisition of select works in the Disegni section by Irinox. This year Irinox acquired the work by the artist Christiane Löhr, presented by Tucci Russo Studio per l’Arte Contemporanea, Torre Pellice, Torino.
